One of my favorite holiday treats is Wassail! My mom’s wassail is the BEST!! And I’ve made it even better by cutting out all of the white sugar she added to her recipe, and opted for fresh orange slices instead!
This is a healthy, holiday treat you can serve up quickly, while adding certain garnishes if you want to “dress” it up for a party or dinner. Me?! I just like making a huge pot of it and re-heating each cup in the microwave (for myself!) each time! This drink has great sources of vitamin C and B, as well as the cranberries antioxidant, anti-infection and anti-inflammatory properties, with links to even reducing cancer risks. Cinnamon is also known to help with metabolism and blood sugar levels. It’s simple, healthy and “holiday ready!!”
Quick and Healthy Christmas Wassail
1 quart apple cider or apple juice (no sugar added)
1 quart natural cranberry juice (no sugar added)
2-4 sticks cinnamon stick
1 quarter-sized slice ginger
1-2 oranges, sliced or add 2 cups orange juice
Add all ingredients to a large pot. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low for 10 minutes. Serve hot or warm.
Garnish with a slice of orange, slice of lemon, fresh cranberries, or a cinnamon stick.
