Weight Release (Weight Loss) Breakfast Recipe: Quinoa Porridge

You want to know what’s hot in the food and weight loss industry?  Chia seeds and Quinoa.  Chia seeds are great for energy and quinoa is a source of complete protein, meaning it contains adequate portions of all nine amino acids.  This weight release (weight loss) breakfast recipe contains both and was mighty tasty!  My daughter didn’t like it without a few drops of stevia, but Landon and I (and a neighbor girl) enjoyed it just the way I made it below.  I also threw in some shredded coconut.  The bananas made it sweet enough for me.  This is such a versatile recipe and I’ll be playing with it in the future.  I’m thinking of adding a scoop of Chocolate Nutrimeal and a scoop of peanut butter.  YUM!!  If you’re family has issues with the texture of quinoa, try sticking an immersion blender into your porridge to puree it to be more creamy.  Add milk if you want it to be runnier.

My daughter is obsessed with “I Like to Eat Apples and Bananas” song right now, so have some fun with your kids at the breakfast table and sing along!

Directions

Makes: 4 servings
Step 1
Bring liquid to boil in a medium saucepan. (I typically use 2 cups water, 1 cup 1% milk when making breakfast quinoa or steel cut oats)
Ingredients:
3 cups Liquid, water, milk, almond milk, coconut milk, etc.
Step 2
Add quinoa, cinnamon, and vanilla to boiling water, lower heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes.
Ingredients:
1 cup Quinoa, rinsed
12 tablespoon Cinnamon
12 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Step 3
After 15 minutes of simmering, add apple, banana, and chia seeds to porridge. Continue simmering for final 5 minutes. Cool and serve. If porridge is not sweet enough for you, add a few drops of liquid stevia.
Ingredients:
1 Apple, diced
2 small Banana, mashed
2 tablespoons Chia Seeds, *optional

I will keep playing around with this recipe, but it was great for my first attempt at breakfast quinoa.
