Let’s face it, there are just simply some days when cooking is not an option or you just want to get out of the house for a casual meal with the family. Is it possible to eat out while focusing on healthier eating? I say YES!
The key is to go for FRESHNESS. We are so lucky where I live to have a deli that is all about satisfying the customer. My full-time working mom, good friend and author of our “What’s in the Fridge Wednesday” Series met me for lunch a few weeks ago at Wasatch Deli. She and I both eat low-glycemic and you might assume there wouldn’t be options for us at a sandwich shop, but Lin, the owner, is so fabulous and was willing to cater to our dietary preferences.
Laura had the Gyro meat on a salad and I opted for the Chef Salad with Avocado. I bet your local deli would be willing to put any sandwich insides on a salad! Get to know your local deli owner. Find out how often their produce gets delivered. Find out if they are willing to customize an option to fit your needs. Trust me, they are willing to customize for your regular business. If your family doesn’t want food from the same place, keep a menu on hand so you can call in your order and pick it up on the way to whatever your family wants to eat.
You can eat healthy no matter what your lifestyle when you go for freshness. Add water with lemon to your order to help minimize the overall insulin spike of the meal, thus helping you to naturally burn fat!
