How to Naturally Freshen those Stinky Towels

When my husband and I got married and combined our stuff, I noticed his towels were not the most pleasant smelling.  It didn’t take long for me to figure out why.  While I put my towels on the towel rack properly folded in thirds, his can be found in a heap on the floor.  No wonder they smelled like mildew.  Needless to say, those were the first towels to get thrown out, but I’ve noticed that the towels I mop with get smelly and why?!  Because I leave them in a heap under my kitchen sink….lol.  I’ve figured out a great solution to getting that stinky mildew smell out of towels!

  1. Wash your towels in HOT water with just one or two cups of white vinegar (depending on the size and severity of smell).
  2. Dry on the highest setting or in the sun if you’re able to.
  3. After the towels are dry, wash them again with your normal detergent and a drop or two of lemon essential oil.  You’ll be amazed at how wonderful your towels smell!

Did you know?!  Lemon oil is probably the most inexpensive oil you can find and it has so many great uses.  It’s the oil I use most in cleaning, it’s in my homemade deodorant, and I use it for many health reasons.  Here are 10 more natural health ideas using lemon oil.

What great advice. My husband and daughter can not for the life of them get towels hung back up. She’s only 5 so I will cut her some slack but he’s a grown man and it’s not that hard to hang up a towel. I’m so glad I found your site through the 12 people to follow on Pintrest.
