The majority of us set New Years Resolutions and nearly all of us fail. In fact anywhere between 75% and 95% of Americans will not follow through with their goals through the entire year and almost half of them, by the end of January. I’ve learned a lot over the years about setting goals and in my efforts to coach people in weight loss, I’ve found some things that work for most everyone. Accountability, camaraderie, and money are huge factors in my success. If I have someone to report to and friends with similar goals, I’m more motivated to endure through the tough times. And, when it comes to money, let’s face it, we all could use more of it. Gaining weight would require me to buy more clothes and that’s just not something I am willing to do. I would much rather lose the weight and be able to fit in everything in my closet.
So, why am I talking about New Years Resolutions in October?! Because, I want to help you prepare to jump full force into your New Year and increase the percentage that you’ll succeed in living a healthier, more balanced, and happy life – for you and for your family in 2011!
Here’s the scoop: Each week, we will focus on building one new healthy habit during the New Year Healthier You Countdown. There won’t be any contests or accountability, just a given that we’re all focusing on this one aspect. There will be 10 focus areas and there are 9 weeks left in the year, so this will take us through the first week in January. Then, in the second week of January, we’ll launch a full-on 8-week challenge to get you in better health, both spiritually and physically. I’ve asked a few of my friends who are experts in various areas to help and I’ll introduce them as we go along. Here’s a sneak peak at the schedule:
Fri Oct 22nd Announce 10 week focus
Fri Oct 29th Keep a daily food journal
Fri Nov 5th No sugar, junk food, soda, fast food
Fri Nov 12th Eat 2 servings fruit and 2 servings veggies per day
Fri Nov 19th Exercise 45 minutes per day, 5 days a week
Fri Nov 26th No eating after 8 pm
Fri Dec 3rd Drink 64 ounces of water per day
Fri Dec 10th Start each day with the power of positive self talk
Fri Dec 17th Read something spiritually uplifting for 15 minutes per day
Fri Dec 24th Do one random act of kindness outside normal daily routine
Fri Dec 31st Get at least 7 hours of sleep per night
Fri Jan 7th Begin 8 week challenge
So, the idea here is that each week through the end of the year, we’ll build on one new habit and by the second week of January, we’ll be prepared to hit a fun challenge together – cash and fun other prizes included! Who’s with me?!
